Biking is not only fitness-friendly, environment-friendly, but it’s also a friendly fun activity for friends and family-bonding time . . . or even for your alone time. And now biking has gotten even more exciting with the new Circulo Verde’s The Bike Playground.
Offering a unique Biking Experience, The Bike Playground has so much to offer biking enthusiasts and newbies — the Philippines’ first Signature Pump Park, a 1 km Outdoor Trail, and an Outdoor Kids Track. The Bike Playground will no doubt encourage more Filipinos to take up biking and at the same time elevate the biking scene to another level.

Start the Year With Green In Mind

Native Sapling by Gregg Yan & WWFPress Update:

Start the year right with these green New Year resolutions! Follow these simple tips shared by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF-Philippines) to give Planet Earth the gift of healing.

According to the Philippine solid waste management group, humanity generates over 10,000 million tons of solid waste each year – and only 12% of this is reused and recycled. Though a season of joy, the holidays also contribute to the planetary problem of solid
waste. So it’s time to clean up and green up this 2016.

Go for an organic lifestyle. Going green starts in the kitchen Organic food may be more expensive but these are free of fertilizers and pesticides which degrade groundwater and carry potential health risks. By purchasing organic produce, you are not only he
lping Mother Nature but also supporting our local farmers.

Use old shoe boxes. Reuse your old shoe boxes. Turn them into works of art. Boost your creativity by decorating boring old boxes and using these store items and organize your home

Start a green family tradition. Make your family participate in eco-conscious activities. You can easily think of simple activities like camping and tree planting where you and your family can work together to raise environmental awareness.

Sort your wardrobe. As the saying goes, what you don’t use is not really yours. Evaluate what is in your closets and set aside some pieces to share with others. This will not just spread a smile of happiness to others but also reduce waste generation.Bicycles by Gregg Yan

Walk or bike, it’s more fun. This New Year, try walking or taking your bike to go places. You’ll be saving money and reducing your carbon footprint while getting an excellent workout. What better way to start the New Year than by staying fit?

You can spread the holiday cheer and help support WWF-Philippines’ programs on biodiversity conservation, environmental sustainability and climate change solutions. Visit Facebook.com/WWF.Philippines to find more ways to help!

SAM_9837There simply is no excuse to not work out because the gym is open 24 hours at Anytime Fitness.  As soon as you wake up, you can go straight  to the gym before heading to work, or if you can’t sleep at night you can tire yourself out with  a simple routine.  So it’s not about having no time to work out.  Accessibility?  That’s the great part, there will be branches near  you and wherever you go, you have access to all branches of Anytime Fitness branches as a bonafide member.  Expense is certainly SAM_9831not an excuse either as you only pay a monthly fee not over P3,000.    So what other excuse can you possibly have for not working out and getting fit and healthy?  Lazy?  Then you just have to motive yourself with th12249945_10153348911727956_8823511865823475621_nat sexy dress and a swimsuit body poster as a target.  C’mon, time to work out.  You will feel a lot better after, guaranteed.

Integrate Exercise in Daily Tasks and Push Your Limits with Fitness First

11025424_10152804330647956_1954230720_oExercise—A word that I am not particularly fond of.  The truth is, it’s something that I have been avoiding for years.  It usually comes up every first month of the year or before summer vacation.  So after New Year’s Resolution, it has snuck up behind me again and punched me in the face.  I NEED  to exercise, there is no way around it.  Even if I went into a diet, which is another story, exercise is a health-must beyond the external aspect.

So here is the punch:  Beach and swimming season is around the corner and we want to look great in our swim wear.  No matter how we suck in or tell ourselves we are not that fat, deep down inside we know the truth.  We need to work out, to trim some excess weight and to strengthen our back and bones to work effectively even after summer is over.

We are all busy but this should not be an excuse to not spare a few minutes to walk around, jog around, or bike around.  Watching what we eat does not mean only less food intake but rather eating the right food to keep the right energy for exercise and daily work. So after setting a weekly menu of veggies, fruits, lesser meats and carbo, lots of water in right amounts per day then we are ready to work that body.

SAM_6664Fitness First recently organized an event at the Bonifacio High Street Activity Center in Global City Taguig entitled Push Your Limits. The objective was to show how exercise can be incorporated in everyday tasks and without the need for exercise machines.

Fitness First created  freestyle areas in their clubs which allow you to exercise and move with purpose. They focus on dynamic movement training, movements that will challenge one’s muscles in multiple directions, combining as many muscle groups as possible to challenge you and get you moving in the way nature intended.

The four different fitness areas that were set-up was to test one’s strength, endurance, flexibility, and speed in a very fun and engaging way. Mall-goers got the chance to see how they measured up against what an average person could accomplish. What’s more, the challenges could be completed without the need to be in workout clothes.

To test their speed, participants were engaged in drills using the agility ladder. This is the most effective tool for training speed and improving footwork. For endurance, participants were asked to lift shopping bags progressively being filled with weights after every round. This type of weight training workout improves your ability to do everyday chores such as carrying a bag of groceries or lifting your young child. Participants also tested how strong they were by the number of times they could flip large tires. The entire body needs to be engaged when you flip the tire, which is perfect for improving over-all strength and conditioning. Lastly, participants were asked to accomplish a series of progressive Vinyasa poses. Vinyasa has both mental and physical benefits, synchronized breathing relaxes the mind and the movements significantly improve flexibility.

All these challenges were performed under the expert guidance of Fitness First Fitness Instructors. For every fitness challenge completed, each participant received a raffle entry for a chance to win free 3-month memberships. What’s more, free health checks were made available to all guests.

But more than just participating in the challenges, Fitness First encouraged the participants to push their limits, to try and exceed what their bodies could normally endure. Most came to realize the importance of including exercise as part of their regular routine and that exercise can be fun and can be done anytime without the need for exercise machines.

Spine Alignment May Be The Simple Cure to Migraines, Fever, and other Body Ailments

SAM_1266SAM_1248Why pop a tablet right away the moment you feel headache, dizziness, sneezing, runny nose, or a warm forehead? These are just symptoms or warnings  your body is sending you that there is something wrong. Having a fever is your body’s way of telling you that it is fighting a virus or that there is an infection somewhere. The wrong response is to stop the message immediately like taking painkillers or an aspirin. Why take these chemically-produced tablets for minor symptoms right away? Overkill.
SAM_1269Try natural methods first, like rest, drinking lots of water and taking in vitamin C. Simple, practical, natural. In cases like this, I always go back to around the time of Adam and Eve and not long after, where there were no hospitals, pharmacies and groceries to run to, just a large garden for your nutrition and medical supplies. The Garden of Eden is the only place where you can heal your body through rest, giving it proper nutrition with healthy fruits and vegetables, and picking out medicinal plants for minor ailments.  During that time, it is the only place for everything else . . . but let us focus on healing.  The Garden of Eden is  the best concept to get my message across: Heal the body Naturally First before resorting to ingesting chemicals, which in the long run, may have an adverse effect or make matters more complicated when the solution is plain and simple.
SAM_1261Most of us don’t have overflowing cash to keep visiting hospitals or buying expensive medications. Too many of us don’t earn enough to set aside for an emergency health crisis, so the more practical way to go is to maintain health on a daily basis. How? By eating the right food, opting for the nutritious dish over the cholesterol and diabetis-encouraging dishes; Cooking or preparing meals that help preserve the natural vitamins and minerals of fruits and vegetables; Selecting the naturally grown produce that will help your body heal itself. Chemicals and preservatives get in the way of your body’s natural healing abilities.
SAM_1253When your body suddenly tells you that you need a rest from the daily stress with a major headache or dizzy spells, or when your stomach tells you that you ate something bad through stomach pains, LISTEN. Don’t muffle the message, by taking in a Biogesic or a Diatab right away. Try taking the day off, simply lie down and take a nap.  Or let your body clean out the dirt, don’t stop your body from eliminating the toxins by taking a tablet for the discomfort. Allow your body to heal itself naturally.
SAM_0439According to Chiropractor Dr. Miguel Flores DC, “The best healer is the brain. It tells the body what to do.” Another reason for migraines, dizzyness and other body discomforts may be due to non-alignment of the spine to the head. This happens because we carry heavy loads, regular sport activities, accidental falls, as well as daily activities that tug at our muscles and bones. It’s common to get our spine misaligned with our everyday physical activities. So we need to visit a certified Chiropractor, who understands how to properly manipulate our bodies, to keep our body in tip top shape. No need to ingest chemicals.  Chiropractors make use of x-rays and the finger-probing of critical spots especially the “atlas” or the bone that connects the base of the skull to the spine, to be able to pinpoint the problem.

Several who have undergone the treatment will share the positive, refreshing, rejuvinating and relaxing after-effect. But, but, but, you must not just trust any untrained physical therapist to snap bones or even manipulate the spine as this may cause paralysis or death in the worst case scenario. Always look for a certification.
SAM_1249Unfortunately, there are not many laws protecting the public from uncertified, self-proclaimed chiropractors so be wise in your selection. Ask for recommendations and look for certifications. Warning, there are less than 10 certified, legal chiropractors in the Philippines so make sure they are on the list that I will be posting here should you want to explore this treatment.
SAM_1260After a short introduction, briefing, initial treatment with an x-ray at Dr. Flores’ clinic at Jupiter Place in Makati, I got a taste of what to expect and the procedures involved. The whole idea of body maintenance through proper nutrition and spine alignment appealed to me a lot, considering that I do advocate a natural lifestyle including natural remedies to common ailments and avoidance of chemicals and preservatives. If you are reading this until this point, then chances are you are interested and agree with my NATURAL way of life philosophy. Why not give it a shot before taking in those never-ending prescription pills. Though we love our doctors for their wonderful skills and specializations in helping us with specific ailments, let’s not run to them right away for a minor complaint.

Party and Work Out All Night Long at the Pure-Jus Zumba Party

zumbathonThat sounds like a fantastic idea . . . partying while working out.  Why hasn’t anyone thought about  this sooner? Or am I just the last to know?  Zumba seems like a fun work out and that is what I need— to have fun in my workouts.  Sadly, I don’t have a regular form of exercise at the moment because it takes time away from what I need to do, which is write and blog among other time-consuming tasks.  But I do believe that I should start some form of exercise if I really value my health.  I’ve been crossing out so many exercise options such as gym work outs,  yoga, swimming, running, because it seems boring to do.  I still have to find an exercise I can enjoy so I would do it more often, instead of considering it like a chore and a form of torture.  I am lost when it comes to exercise.

I still have to  see if I would be able to do zumba on a regular basis, instead of just exploring it only one time.  Now the opportunity has presented itself and I would definitely give it a shot.

On April 1, there will be a Zumbathon party at the Amber Ultra lounge at the Fort starting 6pm.  Let’s see if  Certified Zumba Instructors Celine Encarnacion and Jennie Calonge can get me in the groove. You can join the event as well, here’s how . .
